School Discipline Defense

When a student faces suspension, expulsion, or other disciplinary action, the consequences can be immediate and long-lasting — especially for students with disabilities. Bo Johnson Law offers legal support to help families respond effectively to school discipline issues, with a focus on protecting educational access and ensuring that school districts comply with the law.

Services include:

  • Representation in school suspension and expulsion cases

  • Advocacy during Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) meetings

  • Legal analysis of behavioral incidents involving students with disabilities

  • Review of discipline policies for compliance with federal disability law

  • Support in creating or revising Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)

  • Emergency consultations for upcoming school board or disciplinary hearings

  • Collaboration with providers to support the student’s case

Many discipline cases involve behavioral concerns that are directly related to a student’s disability, and must be handled with care, strategy, and legal insight.

Families often turn to legal support during or just before disciplinary hearings, especially when they feel overwhelmed or unprepared. Bo Johnson Law assists clients throughout Alabama and Washington in asserting their rights and ensuring schools follow proper procedures, including those outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504.

The goal is not just to resolve the immediate disciplinary issue, but to safeguard the student’s long-term educational path and ensure school responses are appropriate, fair, and legally compliant.
